Organizations invest heavily in leadership development, culture, transformation and organizational change. Yet persistent problems often remain: slow decisions, weak accountability, siloed behaviour, poor execution, overloaded executives and leadership teams that perform below the capability of the people around the table.
The problem may not be the people.
Leadership Systems™ helps executives identify the organizational conditions shaping performance and determine what actually needs to change.
Rather than beginning with the assumption that leaders need to be fixed, the program examines how team design, decision rights, authority, incentives, information flows, management practices and organizational context influence how capable people behave and perform.
The objective is straightforward: create the conditions through which capable people and teams can produce better decisions, stronger execution and greater organizational value.
Why Capable Leaders Can Still Produce Disappointing Results
Organizations often interpret performance problems as leadership problems. The response is predictable: leadership training, coaching, competency models, culture initiatives or another transformation program.
Sometimes individual capability is the problem. Often it is not.
Capable executives can struggle when decision rights are unclear, authority and accountability are misaligned, information arrives too late, incentives encourage functional rather than enterprise performance, management processes create unnecessary dependence, or senior executives operate as a collection of individuals rather than an effective team.
Leadership Systems™ helps participants distinguish between an individual capability problem, a behaviour problem, a team-design problem and a system problem before deciding what intervention is required.
What Participants Learn to Do
The program develops the ability to diagnose organizational performance more accurately, examine whether leadership teams are designed for the work expected of them, identify how management systems shape behaviour, and distinguish symptoms from underlying causes.
Participants learn to examine the conditions surrounding a persistent organizational problem, develop a testable explanation for what is causing it, and design a practical intervention rather than immediately reaching for another large-scale solution.
The underlying discipline is simple:
Observe → Diagnose → Hypothesize → Experiment → Learn → Recalibrate
Each participant or leadership team applies the program to a real organizational problem, moving from diagnosis to a practical intervention that can be tested in the organization.
Two Ways to Participate
Private Leadership Team Engagement
Leadership Systems™ can be delivered as a private engagement for an organization's executive or senior leadership team.
Rather than working with hypothetical cases, the engagement focuses on a persistent performance problem within the organization and examines the team and system conditions contributing to it. The engagement includes pre-work and diagnosis, facilitated sessions with the leadership team, supporting materials and development of a practical System Intervention Plan.
Additional executive interviews, diagnostic work and implementation support can be incorporated where appropriate.
Private Leadership Team engagements start at CAD $29,500 per organization.
Final fees depend on team size, diagnostic requirements, customization and follow-up support.
Leadership Systems™ Executive Cohort
Leadership Systems™ is also offered as a small, selective cohort for individual executives and senior leaders.
Each participant brings a real organizational problem to the program and applies the Leadership Systems™ approach to diagnosing what is actually constraining performance and determining what to do about it.
The cohort format adds an important source of value: experienced executives examine problems alongside peers from other organizations, challenging assumptions and learning from different organizational contexts without being constrained by the established thinking within their own organization.
Investment: CAD $4,950 per participant.
Participation is by application to preserve the quality of discussion and peer learning. Program fees are payable only following acceptance.
Who Is It For?
Leadership Systems™ is designed for CEOs, C-suite executives, business-unit leaders, functional leaders and experienced senior managers responsible for organizational performance and capable of changing the conditions under which people and teams work.
It is particularly relevant when an organization has already invested in capable people but continues to experience problems with decision-making, accountability, coordination, execution or organizational change.
The Question
If capable people repeatedly produce disappointing outcomes, is the problem really the people, or the system in which you are asking them to perform?
